Dr. Safia El-Kabbani, Head of the Fine Artists Syndicate, and Dr. Mohammed Shoman, Dean of the Faculty of Media and Communication Studies at the British University—representing Dr. Mohammed Lutfi, President of the British University—inaugurated the "Climate Change Movie Posters" exhibition. The exhibition, featuring works by students from the faculty’s Cinema Department, coincides with Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 conference.
The exhibition, supervised by Dr. Osama Abu Nar, Professor of Design, featured 180 posters created and designed by second-year students.
The attendees listened to the students as each presenter explained the concept of their film through their respective poster. Dr. Safia El-Kabbani praised the innovative film ideas that the students incorporated into their work.
El-Kabbani stated: "Organizing an exhibition for movie posters that all revolve around a single theme and discuss an issue the entire world is suffering from is an idea we must all support, especially with Egypt hosting COP27."
The Head of the Fine Artists Syndicate clarified that art in all its forms is the fastest medium for expressing the societal and humanitarian issues that surround us.
For his part, Dr. Mohammed Shoman emphasized that since the announcement of Egypt hosting this international event, the Faculty of Media and Communication at the British University has been keen to participate. This was achieved by developing film concepts based on the students' imagination and creativity, presenting visions of what life would look like if the Earth were impacted by climate change.
Dr. Osama Abu Nar stated that the exhibition's posters all fall under the genre of science fiction, which is a very difficult category to tackle and produce. However, the students succeeded in expressing these ideas through poster designs for film projects they wrote, starred in, and directed—projects that truly deserve to make it to the screen.
